Our Mission

Inclusive Ink's ultimate mission is to promote literacy, diversity, and inclusion through student writing and journalism education.

In 2023, I spoke at a school board meeting about the importance of diverse literature in schools to provide testimony against the book bans occurring in district. Reading books about my culture like the “Joy Luck Club” in a school environment allowed me to navigate my identity in an increasingly polarizing world. I understood that grassroots efforts to distribute diverse literature amidst book bans were widely unavailable, so I started Inclusive Ink to share work and create a safe space for students to see themselves in books.

In an era of book bans and declining literacy rates, with 54% of Houston fourth graders scoring a zero on the written portion of the online STAAR test last year compared to only 5% in 2021, Inclusive Ink aims to uplift young voices. We work to empower students in the Texan community by providing a platform to publish their work, hosting workshops and book drives, while also encouraging youth to embrace representation of marginalized voices in literature and media
